except: pass Is Not Fault Tolerance

1 min read#Engineering

Wherever except: pass wraps the code, a failure raises nothing and logs nothing, leaving no trail to follow.

These days I only let decorative content degrade silently: mood, hardware stats, recommendation slots — things the user barely notices when they’re missing.

Identity, time, and context assembly are off limits. When they fail silently the model raises nothing; it just behaves as if it doesn’t know, say, what time the user went to bed last night. Tracing that back to one except line takes a long detour.
